POEM: All Things Being Equal

All Things Being Equal

Keeping it 100,
I’d like to get the fuck out of here.

Keeping it real,
“here” means Charlottesville and life.

Keeping it another buck,
there are times
when I spend two hours
on the lawn with friends
and it all seems a little more bearable.

The sun is almost down.
The cat is on Stephanie’s lap.
A jay is doing jay things
in the neighbors’ tree.

All things being equal,
I guess tomorrow can come.
